How to backup network folders
With Memopal you can backup network folders. We thought that a video can be the easiest way to explain how to backup network folders, alternatively read the instructions below.
Windows
- Open Windows Explorer and type in the address bar the path to reach the network folder.
- Right click on the network folder, and then click “Map Network Drive”. Select the drive you want to map and then click on “Finish”.
- Open the Memopal software installed on your computer and then click on “Settings”. Select the “Custom” option and then “Add” folder. Then select the folder you just mapped, then click on “Apply”. Memopal will ask you to enter your credentials, username and password to access the network folder.
Macintosh
- Use the combination of ‘Command + K’ buttons go to the “Connect to Server” window, now type the path of the folder to be mapped. Press the “Connect” button.
- Be careful to set the automatic connection option of a network unit or you will need to remap every reboot. To do this you must enter your network drive in the “Login Items” of your system. Click on the Apple on the top left of the screen, click on “System Preferences”, select “Users and Groups” and then “Login Items.” Click on +, find your network folder and click on “Add”.
- Open the Memopal software installed on your computer and then click on “Settings”. Select the “Custom” option and then “Add” folder. Then select the folder you just mapped, then click on “Apply”. Memopal will ask you to enter your credentials, username and password to access the network folder.
The network folder has been added to your backup set. You can add and remove folders to your backup set from the Memopal control panel by clicking on “Settings”, “Custom”.
Memopal is currently configured to perform every 2 days full backup of the folder, then every 2 days testing the new file and backs up. This happens because typically network folders do not send real-time changes made to a file to the operating system.
We are considering how to improve this aspect, by changing the software to handle the control file is made every day, and in conjunction with the chosen time for backup. In this way, every day will be uploaded the updated files.
